Since 2023, Italian artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò (b. 1979) and a collective of collaborators have been working to sustain the lagoon island of Sant‘ Andrea – a former Renaissance fortress, once built to defend Venice, now in a state of transition between decay and renewal.
Giorgio Andreotta Calò, who lives and works in Venice, transfers the atmosphere of the lagoon and the tensions of this moment to Munich: green shades, a bronze sculpture of an eroded “briccole” and the image of a crab endlessly shedding its shell as a metaphor for vulnerability and transformation.
The exhibition at ERES Projects bridges to Sant’ Andrea – now a fragile ecosystem and laboratory for art, ecology and cultural renewal – as well as to the group exhibition “Shifting Waters”, with which the ERES Foundation participates as a Collateral Event at Biennale Arte 2026 in Venice, where two further works by Giorgio Andreotta Calò are on display simultaneously.
Der italienische Künstler Giorgio Andreotta Calò (*1979) setzt sich seit 2023 mit einem Kollektiv von Mitstreitern für die Bewahrung einer in der Renaissance zur Verteidigung Venedigs erbauten Festung auf der Laguneninsel Sant' Andrea ein. Ein Projekt des Übergangs zwischen Verfall und Erneuerung.
Calò, der in Venedig lebt und arbeitet, überträgt die Atmosphäre der Lagune und die Spannungen dieses besonderen Ortes nach München. Zu sehen sind ein erodierter Holzpfahl als Bronzeskulptur, eine vom Aussterben bedrohte Muschelart und das Bild einer sich endlos häutenden Krabbe als Metapher für Verletzlichkeit und Transformation – eingetaucht in diffuses Lagunengrün.
Die Ausstellung bei ERES Projects schlägt eine Brücke nach Sant’ Andrea – heute ein fragiles Ökosystem und Laboratorium für Kunst, Ökologie und kulturelle Erneuerung – sowie zur Gruppenausstellung „Shifting Waters“, mit der ERES als Collateral Event an der Biennale Arte 2026 in Venedig teilnimmt.
